Sewai upma is a famous breakfast dish from south India. Other name for sewai upma is vermicelli upma because of the use of vermicelli in making the upma. You can make this easy dish within 30 minutes and that makes it one of the most popular choices for breakfast in India.

Did you know sewai upma is one of the variations of rava upma? It is cooked in the same way as the rava upma. Just like this one variation, there are numerous variations of this upma which includes a slight change of veggies and spices in every other recipe.

Veggies like carrots, peas and others make it a healthier option compared to some other breakfast dishes too.

In this recipe, we have used roasted sawai. Commonly, there are two types of wheat sawai that are unroasted and roasted.

If you want to keep things quick, you can use frozen veggies for this recipe as we all know that chopping the veggies would take some time.

Now, let’s get to the simple process of preparing sewai upma at home

Take a pan, add 2 teaspoons oil, ½ teaspoon Black mustard seeds, ½ teaspoon cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon chopped green chilli, ½ teaspoon asafoetida, 1 chopped onion (medium size), mix and cook it for a while and then add 2 stems curry leaves to it.

Now, add 1 bowl carrot, 1 bowl peas, and salt as per taste. Next, add ½ teaspoon turmeric, ½ teaspoon red chilli powder, some water, 1 bowl roasted sewai, and cook it all together. Add some more water and let it cook for some more time.
